Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh found a place on ICC’s T20 Team of the Year 2023. With an exceptional record in T20Is, Surya was named the captain of the team.
Other emerging talents like Phil Salt, Nicholas Pooran and Mark Adair were also included in the team released on Monday.
Indian heavyweights like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were absent from the list as they did not play a single T20 international game in 2023.
33-year-old Suryakumar Yadav captained the Indian team to a 4-1 series victory against Australia last year. He also ended 2023 as the highest run scorer in the shortest format in the year.
Jaiswal, who was named as the opener in ICC’s team, scored a T20 international century in the Asian Games quarter-finals against Nepal.
The combination of Bishnoi and Arshdeep was picked by ICC for the team’s bowling department. Both bowlers have had a successful 2023 and are attempting to cement their spot in the upcoming T20 World Cup in June.
