Pakistan have called up pacers Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan as backup for the injured Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah for Asia Cup 2023.
Rauf and Naseem both encountered niggling injuries that raised alarms within the Pakistani camp during the game against India. While Rauf was unable to participate in the match on the reserve day due to his muscle issue, Naseem Shah walked off after a suspected injury to his bowling shoulder during the 49th over of India's innings.
Neither player came out to bat during Pakistan's innings, which eventually concluded with a total of 128 runs, resulting in a 228-run victory for India.
In a statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it was clarified that the decision to summon backup bowlers is primarily a precautionary measure.
The PCB's official statement further elaborated, "Haris and Naseem will continue to remain under the observation of the team’s medical panel. The team management will only request a replacement from the ACC technical committee if Naseem or Haris are ruled out for the next seven days."
