While talking to a TV news channel back then, the author was asked whether he associates himself with Pakistan after his family moved to Karachi.

To everyone's surprise, Rushdie explained that contrary to popular opinion, he's always on India's side, and on the cricket field, he's always supporting the Men in Blue.

'The Satanic Verses' author was stabbed in the neck and abdomen by a man at a literary event in upstate New York. He is on the ventilator with a damaged liver and may lose one of his eyes due to the grievous injuries.
