After whitewashing Sri Lanka in the T20 series, Team India began the Test series with a bang and ended Day 1 of the 1st Test in command at 357/6.
Opting to bat first, India were 2 down for 80 runs. Playing his 100th Test, Virat Kohli was out for 45 in the 1st innings. Hanuma Vihari impressed with a gritty 58. But the highlight of the day was Rishabh Pant, who smashed a fiery 96.
He was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 45. A strong finish by Team India in the final session ensured that visitors Sri Lanka would have to play catch up on Day 2.
