Closing ceremony: Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 concludes after sporting drama

After much sporting drama the controversial Beijing Winter Olympics that were being held under a vast bio-bubble came to an end after China hosted the closing ceremony for the grand event on Sunday. 

Marred with the Russian doping scandal and the rise of new stars like Eileen Gu who became the youngest ever freestyle skiing champion, the Beijing Olympics that started on 4th February came to an end. Thomas Bach, the International Olympic Committee president congratulated the nation for hosting a safe Olympics as the fireworks at the Bird's Nest stadium marked the end of the most locked-down Olympics ever. The closing ceremony was also attended by President Xi Jinping.

18-year-old Eileen Gu and 15-year-old Kamila Valieva became the teenage face of the event for different reasons. While the former became a 2 time gold medallist after winning the skiing championship, the latter who is a Russian skater was involved in an embarrassing doping scandal. For the 2nd time in a row in Winter Olympics, Norway topped the medals table with 16 golds followed by Germany and China with 12 and 9 gold respectively.
