18-year-old Rudrankksh Patil won the Gold medal in the men's 10m air rifle event at the ISSF World Championship, becoming only the second Indian to achieve the feat after Olympic Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who won it in 2006.

The teenager who at one point had 'quit the sport within a month of joining it' also secured a quota spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics with his victory.

Trailing 4-10 at one time during the gold medal contest, Patil made a brilliant comeback to beat Italy's Danilo Dennis Sollazzo 17-13.

While India has always excelled in shooting competitions, a gold at ISSF World Championship, which happens once in 4 years is rare.
