A day after she withdrew from the gymnastics team final, USA's Simone Biles has opted out from the all-around competition as well, and will not defend her Olympic gold in that event.

USA Gymnastics said in a statement that after further medical evaluation, Biles has withdrawn in order to focus on her mental health. She will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week’s individual event finals.

Women's all-around gymnastics event was one of four competitions in which she won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
