Serum Institute to start Novavax vaccine trials for children in July

Serum Institute of India (SII) is expected to begin clinical trials for the Novavax Covid vaccine for children in the month of July, news agency ANI reported.  

SII also hopes to introduce Covavax, which is a version of US firm Novavax's Covid-19 vaccine candidate, in the country by September.

Novavax, which has a vaccine manufacturing agreement with SII, has said its Covid vaccine candidate was highly effective with 90.4 per cent efficacy overall and also showed high efficacy against predominantly circulating variants.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has already started clinical trials of Covaxin for children 12 to 18 years of age. Bharat Biotech is also conducting clinical trials of its nasal vaccine for children. Zydus Cadila has also begun the trials of vaccine in children aged 12-18.
