According to cyber intelligence firm Group-IB, a new Facebook Messenger scam is targeting users in over 80 countries across the world.
The company has discovered over a thousand fake Messenger accounts that send links to what they claim is an updated version of Facebook Messenger. After a user clicks on the link, they are taken to a fake Messenger website with a fake login form, which then captures their username and password, and gains access to their account.
Users who fall victim to this scam risk losing access to their account and private data, which Group-IB says can even be used to blackmail the user.
