England suffered their first defeat of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday as South Africa edged to a 10-run win in Sharjah. Despite victory, The Proteas didn't do enough to advance to the semi-finals and are out of the tournament.
Put in to bat and needing a convincing win, South Africa scored 189/2, courtesy van der Dussen's career-best 94 off 60 balls. South Africa needed to restrict the 3 Lions to 131 runs or fewer, which they failed to do. Despite a hat-trick by Kagiso Rabada in his final over, The 3 Lions ended up with 179/8.
It means that Australia and England go through to the semis from Group 1 courtesy of a superior net run rate. All three teams finished on 8 points.
