Sports minister Kiren Rijiju announced financial support of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved families of legendary India hockey players MK Kaushik and Ravinder Pal Singh, who lost their lives to Covid-19 earlier this month.

While the 60-year-old Ravinder succumbed to the virus in Lucknow after battling it for nearly 2 weeks, Kaushik died after suffering from the ailment for nearly 3 weeks. The two players were part of the India hockey gold-medal winning team at 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Rijiju tweeted to say that it's a gesture of support to their families and the Sports Ministry stands with them in this hour of grief.
