Delhi Capitals' head coach and former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has confirmed that he was approached by some senior members of the BCCI to become the head coach of Team India. Ponting in a chat with the Great Cricketer podcast confirmed that he was approached during the final stages of IPL 2021 in the UAE. The senior board officials were more than keen to make it happen but Ponting had other plans.

The 46-year-old had to politely turn down the offer due to family commitments as he has 2 young kids and the role would require him to travel for 300+ days a year. Ponting explained that he would love to coach India but short-term coaching commitments, like the one he has with the DC, is something that he enjoys and can afford right now.

On being asked about coaching Australia, Ponting had the same answer that he cannot see himself committing to travel 300 days a year owing to the busy national cricket calendar.
