The Uttar Pradesh Police on Sunday released a new set of guidelines, barring all kinds of religious processions during Muharram, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The 10-day festival is set to begin on August 10.
The UP police has said that Muharram should be celebrated in adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour and keeping in the mind the restrictions to tackle the pandemic. Policemen have been told to take preventive action against anti-social elements and keep an eye on social media for fake news and provoking content.
The UP police has also urged religious leaders for spreading awareness about Covid-19 and the need to celebrate Muharram indoors.
