The Kerala High Court on Friday passed an interim order in favour of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) in their challenge to the Centre's new IT rules. The court ruled that "no coercive action" can be taken against News Broadcasters Association over non-compliance with IT rules.

In the petition, the NBA had stated that the new rules give government authorities excessive power to unreasonably regulate content of digital news media.

In a statement, the NBA said the IT Rules, 2021, violate Article 14 of the Constitution on equality before law and Article 19 on the right of freedom to practise any profession
