The Delhi High Court on Wednesday heard the public interest litigation filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in relation to his tweet allegedly disclosing and sharing the identity of the Delhi rape victim’s family in Delhi.
Twitter India told the Court that the microblogging site took action against Gandhi’s tweet and has been wrongly impleaded in the case. The social platform took down the tweet and also locked Gandhi’s account for a short while.
Filed by Makarand Suresh Mhadlekar, the PIL seeks legal action against the Congress leader by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and an FIR by the Delhi Police under sections of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.
The Court has listed the matter for further hearing for September 23rd.
Provisions under the Indian Penal Code mandate that the identity of a child victim of a crime shall not be disclosed. Rahul Gandhi had posted a picture with the parents of the victim.
