The survey is part of Protein Week 2021, celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of protein. It was carried out with a sample size of 2,762 respondents, who were scored on key parameters of physical health, psychological health, social relationships and environment.
As per the findings, 46.2% of Indian adults have poor quality of life. In fact, more women (50.4 percent) were found to have poor QoL than men (42 percent). The survey also concluded that poor dietary habits, erratic sleep schedule and sedentary lifestyle adversely impacts the quality of life.
In terms of cities, Kolkata recorded the highest percentage of people with poor QoL, followed by Chennai, Delhi, Patna, Hyderabad and Lucknow. Conversely, Mumbai had the highest percentage of people (68 percent) recording a good quality of life.
The study revealed the gap in nutrition, even amongst the upper income groups. However, this can only be tackled by taking personal responsibility as consumers and by making nutritious food more available, accessible and affordable for people.
