Police Commemoration Day 2021: As per the data collected by the National Police Memorial, from Independence till 31 August 2019, around 35,134 police officers have sacrificed their lives in the service of the country.

Observed on 21st October each year, Police Commemoration Day aims at honouring the brave police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The significance of October 21 stems from the incident of October 21 1959, wherein ten police officers were ambushed and killed by the Chinese Army in Hot Springs in Ladakh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude and acknowledged the "outstanding efforts by the police forces in preserving law and order, and assisting others in times of need."
