Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday kickstarted the 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav' event and flagged off a ‘Padyatra’ from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.

A 241-mile march from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to Dandi in Gujarat's Navsari is being held to celebrate 75 years of India's Independence.

Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav is a series of events to be organised by the central government to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

The state and UT governments will also organise programmes all over the country. March 12 has been chosen as Mahatma Gandhi took out the famous Dandi March on this day in 1930.
