During a hearing in the Supreme Court the Centre on Monday denied snooping allegations against the government and said it will set up a committee to probe the Pegasus issue.
In a two-page affidavit the government ‘unequivocally’ denied allegations which it said is ‘based on conjectures and surmises or on other unsubstantiated media reports or incomplete or uncorroborated material’.

Petitioners claimed that the government used military-grade spyware to snoop on journalists, politicians, activists and court staff.
The government told the apex court that all snooping allegations will be examined by a group of experts to dispel any wrong narrative.
After an international media consortium reported that over 300 verified Indian mobile phone numbers were on the list of potential targets for surveillance using Pegasus spyware, several petitions have been filed seeking an independent probe into the alleged snooping case
