Tokyo Olympics: gold medal winners from Uttar Pradesh to get ₹6 crore prize money

In a morale boosting news for the Tokyo bound athletes from Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced huge cash rewards for athletes from the state who win medals at the Tokyo Olympics.

Gold medal winners in the individual category are set to get Rs 6 crore from the government, while gold medallists in team events will receive Rs 3 crore. Moreover, the government will also provide Rs 10 lakh to each athlete participating in individual and team events. 

Shooters Saurabh Chaudhary, Mairaj Khan and javelin throw stars Shivpal Singh and Annu Rani are among athletes from Uttar Pradesh who have qualified for the Olympics, starting July 23.
