Six-time world champion M. C. Mary Kom has decided to join the rest of India's Olympic-bound boxing team in Italy for training. She took the step in order to avoid the added restrictions on those travelling to Tokyo from India amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 38-year-old  told PTI that since there are stricter quarantine restrictions on those who are travelling from India, she has changed her mind and wants to avoid them. Mary Kom added that after training so hard for so long, there's no point in taking such a risk, as a hard quarantine can break the rhythm.

The Indian athletes and officials have been asked by the Japanese government to undergo daily Covid-19 tests for a week prior to their departure to Tokyo and not interact with anyone from another country for three days upon arrival.
