Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has called for caste-based census in his state, on Thursday said that he has sought a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi but hasn't got a response as of now.

Parliamentarians of Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United had been denied a meeting with prime minister Narendra Modi and were reportedly to seek a meeting with home minister Amit Shah.

Nitish Kumar said that worries that a caste census were unfounded and it will benefit everyone.

Nitish's ally BJP had expressed concern, saying caste-based census might have an adverse impact on social amity.

Last month, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had said: the government has decided as a matter of policy not to enumerate caste-wise population other than SCs and STs in Census".
