The Election Commission's panel counsel in the Supreme Court had resigned saying that his values are not in consonance with the current functioning of the poll panel. Mohit D. Ram had been the EC's panel counsel since 2013. His resignation comes as the poll panel faces severe criticism for allowing massive political rallies and campaigning during the just concluded assembly elections in the 5 states. It has been especially slammed for holding the West Bengal state polls over 8 phases and failing to ensure that political parties follow Covid guidelines. The poll panel has also been accused to acting at the behest of the BJP.
