Speaking during a visit to Pakistan, UK’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on Friday that Britain will not recognise the Taliban as the new government in Kabul. He however added that it must deal with the new realities in Afghanistan and does not want to see the social and economic fabric of the country broken.
He further added it would not have been possible to evacuate some 15,000 people from Kabul without some degree of cooperation with the Taliban, who seized Kabul on Aug. 15.
China had earlier mentioned that it is ready to deepen "friendly and cooperative" relations with the Taliban following their takeover.
Meanwhile, the US has announced the end of its 20-year-old war in Afghanistan as the last American military flight flew out of the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul shortly before the August 31 deadline.
