Maharashtra always led the tally in the Covid scare but the 57,000 tally for the state and 11,000 for Mumbai is raising alarms like never before and here is why-:
- The contribution of Maharashtra was 25%, vs 55% now to the overall peak.
- Previous infection wave took more than 6 months to peak vs <2 months now
- Mumbai alone has more cases than the next two states combined
- Latest daily record at 11,000 is 5 times higher than the previous daily record rate of 2,800 cases
- At over 60,000 Mumbai has the second highest number of active cases in India just second of neighbouring city Pune
If one rewinds back a month, March 4 the fresh cases in Mumbai were only 1100 and the latest figures show an increase of 10 fold in 30 days.
