The Madras High court has issued a notice to music maestro AR Rahman seeking an explanation for allegedly routing an income of over ₹3 crores through his AR Rahman Foundation to evade tax.

According to a report in a leading daily, the Income Tax Department filed a case against Rahman after the music composer received an income of ₹3.47 crore in the year 2011-12 based on a contract with a UK-based telecom company to compose exclusive ringtones.

Reportedly Rahman is accused of instructing the company to directly pay the remuneration to his charitable foundation & evade taxes.
