Our beloved biryani has again topped the list of food orders online. According to the food delivery platform, Biryani was the most ordered dish on Swiggy in 2023 for the eighth consecutive year.
In 2023, India ordered 2.5 biryanis every second. And, for every 5.5 chicken biryanis, there was one veg biryani ordered.
The report also pointed out that the most orders came from user accounts in Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad, with each placing over 10,000 orders. And, on the day of the World Cup 2023 finals, on November 19, India ordered 188 pizzas per minute.
According to the "How India Swiggy'd 2023 - unwrapping India's year in on-demand convenience" report, analyzing order data from January 1 to November 23, 2.49 million customers made their Swiggy debut with a biryani order.
Hyderabad emerged as the city with the highest biryani appetite, with every sixth biryani delivered in this city.
During Durga Pujo, Gulab Jamuns overtook Roshogollas with over 7.7 million orders. Masala Dosa was the top favourite in vegetarian orders for all nine days of Navaratri.
