Jump in labour remittances, but formal employment lagging: report

A big jump has been seen in labour remittances in September, indicating the return of labourers after reverse migration during the lockdown, a report by SBI said. SBI Ecowrap report indicated that the higher labour remittances were also accompanied by greater creation of first-time payroll jobs in August. However, the report added that formal employment opportunities are not rising as fast as employment in the informal or unorganised sector.
