J&K local polls: Big lead for Gupkar Alliance over BJP

The Gupkar Alliance has gained a big lead over the BJP in the District Development Council elections in J&K. This is the first election in J&K since the status change last year. In the latest leads, the Gupkar alliance, which is a grouping of regional parties including the National Conference and PDP, is ahead in 81 seats; the BJP is leading in 47 seats. The Congress is leading in 21. Votes are being counted for 280 seats - 14 in each of the 20 districts of the union territory.
