According to reports in the media, the dates for IPL mega auction have been confirmed by the BCCI and the IPL governing council. The mega event is likely to take place in the first week of February and is set to be a 2-day affair.

A report on Cricket.com read, ' Bangalore and Hyderabad have emerged as the two frontrunner cities for the IPL 2022 auction to be held keeping better screening process in mind'

Until now, the cash-rich league was an 8-team tournament but the BCCI added 2 new teams from the 2022 edition in the form of Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The new teams can retain 3 players each from the pool of released players with not more than one overseas player being retained by each of the 2 new franchises.
