As India thrashed hosts Maldives 3-1 on Wednesday night to book a place in the SAFF Championship final, Captain Sunil Chhetri went past the legendary Pele's feat of scoring 77 international goals for Brazil. Chhetri through his brace with goals coming in the 62nd and 71st min went past Pele's tally for 77 strikes and reached 79 goals for the Blue Tigers. The Indian football captain is now just 1 goal shy of equalling Lionel Messi's 80 goal mark for Argentina.

The player on top of that pile is Cristiano Ronaldo who has smashed 115 goals for Portugal as Sunil Chhetri now sits on the 3rd spot in the list of most international goals by an active footballer.

With his intentions clear about not retiring any time soon, Chhetri who just turned 37 will be aiming to breach the triple-digit mark and get as close to Ronaldo's unbelievable tally of 115 goals.
