As India's white-ball captain Rohit Sharma is ruled out of the Test series in South Africa, Test skipper Virat Kohli is likely to miss the ODI series in January.

According to a report in the Times of India, it has nothing to do with the white-ball captaincy being given to Rohit Sharma. Kohli had reportedly informed the BCCI in advance that he would take a break in January since the 3-match ODI series in South Africa was coinciding with the 1st birthday of his daughter Vamika. However, Virat took this call according to the previous schedule. Since the 3rd Test now begins on January 11, the same day as his daughter's birthday, it will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Rohit Sharma meanwhile was ruled out of the Test series due to a hamstring injury he suffered during a practice session. Hence, the two captains are unlikely to play together for now.
