Covid: India sees 14% drop in new cases

India witnessed a 14% drop in new Covid-19 infections on February 5, compared to a day earlier.

The latest Health Ministry data reported 1.27 lakh new cases, recorded in a span of 24 hours. A day earlier, 1.49 lakh cases had been recorded.

The daily positivity rate dropped from 9.27% to 7.98%. Positivity rate refers to positive results compared to total tests conducted.

The current active caseload stands at 13.31 lakh. 2.3 lakh recoveries reported on February 5 took the national recovery rate to 95.64%. A total of 4 crore, 2 lakh patients have recovered in the country since the pandemic began.

In grim news, 1,059 patients died due to Covid in 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 5.01 lakh.

Meanwhile, the total vaccination number reached 168.98 crore.
