Chinese President Xi Jinping may skip the upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi, news agency Reuters reported. Premier Li Qiang is expected to fill in for him.

Two Chinese diplomats confirmed to Reuters that Xi will not be travelling to India on September 9-10, joining Russian President Vladimir Putin on the no-show list.

However, Xi recently did travel to South Africa for the BRICS summit, where G20 host India was also present.

“We are aware that the (Chinese) premier will come,” a senior government official from India told Reuters.
