The Jawaharlal Nehru University is in the eye of yet another storm. Days after violence between students on the occasion of Ram Navami, a right-wing group targeted the institution.
The Hindu Sena put up posters saying 'Bhagwa (saffron) JNU' near the gates of the university. The posters were accompanied by a plethora of saffron scarves. The posters and saffron scarves covered JNU's vicinity, including autorickshaws plying in the area.
In a video message, Hindu Sena's vice president "warned" those opposed to 'bhagwa' or saffron. Without listing specific instances, the Hindu Sena accused elements at JNU of trying to insult 'Saffron'. Srujit Yadav said, "At the Jawaharlal Nehru University, those opposed to Saffron have been insulting it. Hindu Sena warns them and asks them to mend their ways. They should stop trying to insult Saffron. We respect you, we respect all religions, we respect all ideologies. But the way in which Saffron is being insulted in JNU will not be tolerated by Hindu Sena. We can take any strong action over this."
Police reportedly said that the posters were promptly removed due to the recent violence, and appropriate legal action is being taken.

JNU recently turned into a battleground after students reportedly associated with Left and ABVP clashed on April 10. ABVP, the RSS' student wing, claimed that its Ram Navami prayer session was disrupted and attacked by Left students. Meanwhile, those associated with the Left claimed that they were attacked by ABVP for consuming chicken on Ram Navami. JNU authorities ordered a proctoral inquiry after the incident.
