At least six people were killed and over a dozen injured as an electric bus rammed into bystanders in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Monday.

Reports said the speeding bus lost control at Tat Mill crossing and hit several bystanders, three cars and many motorcycles. The bus then hit a traffic booth before coming to a halt after it smashed into a standing truck.

Police said the injured have been shifted to a hospital and some among them are critical. A manhunt has been launched for the driver of the bus who fled the scene.

Several politicians, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, offered their condolences to the families of the dead. President Ram Nath Kovid also offered his condolences in a tweet.
