The Supreme Court has stayed the order issued by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in March asking the state government to develop Amravati as the capital within 6 months.

Observing that the order oversteps the principle of 'separation of power', the judges said that courts cannot become town planner and chief engineer.

The plea against high court order has been moved by the Andhra Pradesh govt led by chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
