A group of students burnt the effigy of BHU vice chancellor Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain in front of his residence on campus after he attended an iftar party hosted by teachers and students of Mahila Mahavidyalaya.

The protesting students claimed that this was a new tradition and a move to appease.

They further alleged that the VC did not find time to celebrate other festivals with students.

The BHU administration, however, has refuted the claim. University spokesperson Dr Rajesh Singh reportedly said the iftar party was an annual affair and not a new tradition.
