Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as member of Parliament after he was sentenced to prison for 2 years in a defamation case. Gandhi represented Wayanad constituency from Kerala.
According to the law, an MP stands disqualified if they are sentenced to 2 or more years in prison from the date of conviction and cannot contest elections for 6 years after completion of the jail term.
Gandhi's sentence has been suspended by the Surat court that convicted him for 30 days to enable him to appeal.
