Congress leader Sonia Gandhi hinted at her retirement from politics while addressing party leaders at the plenary session on 25 February 2023.

On Day 2 of the event in Chhattisgarh's Raipur, Sonia reportedly said that what "gratifies" her most is that her "innings could conclude" with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. She said that the Yatra had come as a "turning point", proving that the people of India "overwhelmingly want harmony, tolerance and equality".

A day earlier, Sonia, her son Rahul, and daughter Priyanka skipped a meeting at the plenary during which it was decided that members of the party's top decision-making body, the Congress Working Committee, would be chosen by president Mallikarjun Kharge, instead of through elections.
