Police fired tear gas and used water cannons on BJP workers in Kolkata's suburbs of Howrah as they marched towards 'Nabbana', the state govt's secretariat on Tuesday.

Several state BJP leaders including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari were detained.

The BJP march was stopped near the second Hooghly Bridge or the Vivekananda Setu near the secretariat.

BJP supporters from across West Bengal started arriving in Kolkata and neighbouring Howrah on Tuesday morning to take part in the saffron party's 'Nabanna Abhijan' (march to secretariat) to protest against alleged corrupt practices of the TMC government.
