Gujarat government's latest decision to form a committee for implementation of Uniform Civil code in the poll-bound state has sparked fresh political row.

After AIMIM chief Asaddudin Owaisi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has raised questions on the intention of the ruling saffron party behind its move.

In a presser in Gujarat's Bhavnagar on Sunday, he asked whether the BJP-led central government was waiting for the Lok Sabha elections to make a move in this direction.

Kejriwal said that if the BJP wants to do so, it should do it across the country.

To a question on the Gujarat government's decision, Kejriwal claimed "their intention is bad".

The AAP national convener further said that a similar move was made before Uttarakhand elections however nothing was done after polls were over.

Kejriwal also sought to know why no such committee was formed in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

The Election Commission is likely to announce schedule for the Gujarat Assembly polls this week.
