TMC MP Derek O'Brien has been suspended from Rajya Sabha for the rest of the winter session of the Parliament.

The action against him was taken for "gross misconduct" and "defying the Chair" during the proceedings.

This comes after O'Brien demanded a discussion on the security breach incident.

As per the Rajya Sabha Chairman, O'Brien had entered the well of the House, shouted slogans and disrupted the proceedings of the House.

Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned after uproar by opposition members over the TMC leader's suspension.

The motion to suspend O'Brien was adopted with a voice vote.
