Joshimath town, which is already struggling with land subsidence, has been hit by bad weather, causing delays in remedial measures.

Demolition of buildings in the Uttarakhand town has been halted, Chamoli district magistrate said on 20 January 2023. The DM said that due to heavy snowfall and rain, labourers were struggling to work.

He added that demolition will resume once the weather improves.

Hundreds of buildings in Joshimath have developed cracks after rapid sinking of the land due to a phenomenon called subsidence.
