With terrorists continuing to target civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, village defence guards have been constituted to deter the threat.

The Central Reserve Police Force was seen providing training to a village guard in Rajouri, which recently saw a spate of shootings and bomb attacks that killed 6 civilians.

CRPF personnel said that the village defence guards are equipped with weapons, and are being trained so they can take action in emergency situations.

On 1 January 2023, terrorists entered some civilians' houses in Dhangri village in Rajouri, and shot 4 people dead. The next day, a bomb explosion near the house of one of the targets led to deaths of 2 more persons.
