The annual dance of destruction is underway in Assam. Heavy rains, massive floods, and deadly landslides are once again punishing the northeast state.
At least 9 people had died by May 18. 6.6 lakh people were affected in 27 districts of Assam.
Scary videos of the deluge have been emerging on social media. Such is the ferocity of the torrent that even a train was tipped over. The incident occurred the New Haflong station.
Earlier, a bridge being washed away was caught on camera. The mishap occurred in Dima Hasao. The district has been cut off from the rest of the state due to road and rail lines being inundated.

Hojai and Cachar are the worst-hit districts so far. Over 48,000 people had been relocated to over 200 relief camps by May 18.
The state government has promised Rs 4 lakh compensation to family members of the casualties.
Other northeastern states like Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have also been adversely hit by heavy rains. At least 3 deaths have been reported from other states in the region.
