A Gurugram couple has been arrested for allegedly torturing their 14-year-old domestic help.
Police said the teen girl suffered horrific abuse by the employers over the last few months. According to media reports, the girl was allegedly beaten with hot tongs and sticks while also starved by the couple for not working properly.
Officials said the Jharkhand teen had wounds all over her body, and her medical examination is being done to ascertain if she was sexually harassed.
The couple had hired the girl last year to look after their 3.5-year-old daughter, and reports of her abuse came to the fore after pictures of her bruises went viral on social media. An NGO lodged a complaint against the couple based on the photos.
Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, who identifies herself as an activist on her Twitter bio in a post on February 7 shared victim's photos with injuries claiming that the 14-year-old was being brutally tortured by her employers.
The couple has been booked under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences or POCSO Act.
