Election Commission to announce poll dates for 5 states today

The Election Commission is set to announce the schedule of assembly elections in five states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram around noon on October 9.

The elections are likely to be held in the months of November and December.

Two of the five states going to polls, namely Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, are currently being ruled by the Congress party.

BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh and has an alliance with the ruling Mizo National Front in Mizoram.

Telangana is under the rule of BRS led by CM K Chandrashekar Rao.
