The Election Commission of India has taken note of alleged model code violations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The two leaders are facing allegations of causing hatred and divide based on religion, caste, community or language.

The EC has sought responses from presidents of both parties, JP Nadda and Mallikarjun Kharge, by 11 am on April 29.

The EC said campaign speeches by those holding high positions are of more serious consequences.
