Delhi: AIIMS cardiologists perform successful heart surgery on foetus

A team of Delhi AIIMS doctors successfully performed a risky heart surgery on a foetus inside a mother's womb. Doctors said both mother and child are doing fine, adding that the balloon dilation surgery was performed to enlarge the valves of the unborn baby's grape-sized heart.

The operation was done in 90 seconds, according to the doctors. The 28-year-old mother, who has suffered three miscarriages, and her husband expressed their desire to continue the current pregnancy and agreed to the surgery after doctors told them about their baby's heart condition.
